Torre Boldone Loft and Residence

The project involved the comprehensive redevelopment and vertical expansion of a three-family house in Torre Boldone, addressing the complex issue of attic conversion through a sophisticated fusion of form and technology. It makes a positive contribution to the contemporary debate on limiting land consumption, demonstrating how the controlled densification of existing building stock can generate new spatial and formal qualities without disrupting the neighborhood’s scale.

The focal point of the new design lies in the construction of the third floor, structurally conceived as an all-timber framework that rests lightly upon the existing masonry structure below.

Moving beyond conventional approaches, the design deliberately avoids highlighting the timber nature of the material—which would create a stark contrast with the base—opting instead for a refined, elegant formal abstraction.

Indeed, the new timber addition features a monochromatic grey finish identical to that of the rest of the building. This deliberate chromatic choice eliminates the visual perception of structural discontinuity between the floors, merging the various historical and technological layers into a single, cohesive, and compact sculptural volume.

In this way, the facades acquire a distinctly contemporary geometric rigor; the underlying timber reveals itself to the discerning eye only through the surface micro-texture and the millimetric precision of the detailing, creating a perfect synthesis of tectonic lightness and a unified, rigorous visual identity.
