It makes a positive contribution to the contemporary debate on limiting land consumption, demonstrating how the controlled densification of existing building stock can generate new spatial and formal qualities without disrupting the neighborhood’s scale. Vertical extension aimed at converting the attic into living space. High-efficiency rooftop addition with an all-timber structure Monochromatic formal abstraction for a unified architectural image. Characteristic Detail Name Torre Boldone Loft and Residence Project Three-Family Residence Type of Building Residential Type of Intervention Attic conversion and redevelopment Location Torre Boldone (BG) Client Private Status Completed Year 2017 The focal point of the new design lies in the construction of the third floor, structurally conceived as an all-timber framework that rests lightly upon the existing masonry structure below. Moving beyond conventional approaches, the design deliberately avoids highlighting the timber nature of the material\u2014which would create a stark contrast with the base\u2014opting instead for a refined, elegant formal abstraction. Indeed, the new timber addition features a monochromatic grey finish identical to that of the rest of the building. This deliberate chromatic choice eliminates the visual perception of structural discontinuity between the floors, merging the various historical and technological layers into a single, cohesive, and compact sculptural volume. In this way, the facades acquire a distinctly contemporary geometric rigor; the underlying timber reveals itself to the discerning eye only through the surface micro-texture and the millimetric precision of the detailing, creating a perfect synthesis of tectonic lightness and a unified, rigorous visual identity."}
